overview : The Museum collects, exhibits, preserves, and interprets American paintings, works on paper, sculpture and material culture from the region. The painting collection of the Jersey City Museum contains 150 works that span the 19th and 20th centuries. Comprised of traditional portraits, landscapes and still lifes it includes pictures by Edward Henry Potthast, Arthur Parton, and Charles Webster Hawthorne. Encompassing drawing, print and photographic media, paper-based objects comprise the largest area of the museum's holdings. The areas of Decorative Arts & Historical Objects encompass a wide range of materials from ceramics and glass to textiles, woodwork, and stone. And the museum holds several focus collections including a group of 500 examples of advertising and product designs related to Jersey City Industry
