overview : an official U. S. Navy Museum on 12 May 2000 by the Secretary of the Navy, the first such museum to be created by the Navy in nearly 20 years. ü We exist specifically to exhibit air weapons developed by Naval Air Warfare Center - Wepaons Division, China Lake and its predecessors, as well as other technologies and the general history of the base itself which wasü created in November of 1943 to meet WWII needs. ü- Probably the best known weapon originating in China Lake laboratories is the Sidewinder heat-seeking missile used in air-to-air combat.
