Stevens County Historical SocietyMorris, MN, 56267 320-589-1719 URL : http://www.stevenshistorymuseum.com overview : Interest in preserving the past has been a hallmark of Stevens County residents beginning with the Old Settlers Association, founded in 1876. World War I demanded a new response to events, and the Stevens County War Records Commission was established to document the local war effort. The Stevens County Historical Society, founded in 1922, took over the collection of war memorabilia. As more items related to local history were donated, the society quickly evolved into a local history museum. During the past few decades the Society has successfully redefined the role of the museum. No longer the community attic, it is now recognized as a dynamic regional education and research institution. collections : The collections of the SCHS are ideal for interpreting ordinary people and everyday life. The collection includes a one room schoolhouse, a log cabin, three dimensional objects, furnishings, personal artifacts, tools, & equipment. The museums library includes approximately, 2,500 books, including rural school textbooks, school yearbooks, local, family, state and national histories, representative literary works, historic volumes on technology and agricultural practices, and a collection of religious texts in several languages.
