overview : Museum associated with the Norwich Fre Academy - the Academy's third principal, Dr. Robert Porter Keep, a noted greek scholar, suggested the idea of creating a collection of plaster casts of some of the world's greatest sculptures for the new museum.
collections : Over the past one hundred years, the museum has grown through generous gifts, personal bequests, and museum purchases. Along with its splendid cast collection, the Slater Museum today houses, under one roof, the "Art of Five Continents" - North and South America, Europe, Asia, and Africa. Of particular interest are the Vanderpoel Collection of Asian Art, the Paul Zimmerman Collection of African and Oceanic Art, and the Slater's fine collection of American 19th century paintings.
