overview : Housed in a former U.S. Post Office built in 1912, Riverside Metropolitan Museum features ongoing and changing exhibitions with an emphasis on local history, nature, anthropology, and art. The Museum features a Nature Lab and Water-wise Garden with over 30 living species of local and exotic plants and animals.

Educational programs, tours, and events are offered for all ages. The Museum owns and operates Heritage House Victorian Museum and Harada House.

collections : The Museum's collections consist of over 75,000 objects, which include: Anthropology (one of the largest Native American basket colletions, Native American material culture, Japanese Textiles, art, and other archaeological materials); Natural History (Specimens of minerals, rocks, fossils, nature lab and water-wise garden with living animals and plants, mammals, reptiles, birds, insects, amphibians, marine invertebrates, botanical mounts, and herbarium); History (Citrus labels and industry tools/equipments, Rin Tin Tin artifacts, quilts & other textiles, photographs, ephemera)

The Museum owns the Heritage House Museum, a Victorian home with heirloom garden, carriage house, and barn, and the National Historic Landmark, Harada House, which was owned by the Haradas, a Japanese immigrant family that fought to achieve land ownership and equal treatment as American citizens.
