collections : The museum's permanent collection is distributed over three levels, each devoted to a different aspect of California. On level 1, a visitor can Take a Walk across California through nine different natural areas, from the Pacific Coast to the desert. On Level 2 we have the Cowell hall of California History. Highlights include extensive collections of historical photographs, American Indian and Pacific Islands ethnographic objects, costumes and textiles. Visitors to Level 3, the Gallery of California Art, will experience the story of art in the Golden State from the mid-1800s to today.
