Nodaway County Historical SocietyMaryville, MO, 64468 660-582-8176 URL : http://www.nodawayhistorical.org overview : Founded in 1944 and reorganized in 1964, the Nodaway County Historical Society is an active organization dedicated to the study, collection and preservation of historically significant data and material. collections : The Main Building of the museum houses innumerable artifacts pertaining to life in Nodaway County. The displays cover a wide range of interests: farming, horse raising, clothing, toys, churchs, politics and military. The Caleb S. Burns House is a typical working man's home in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. This house was built in the 1849 by Caleb Burns. One can notice the original windows, woodwork and floors on the second floor. The kitchen was refurbished to appear as it may have been when the house was first built. This house is furbished with 19th century artifacts including dishes, funiture, clothing, needlepoints, handwoven coverlets, and other items. The Hickory Grove Schoolhouse is a one-room school built in 1887. It is furbished with material from various one-room schoolhouses of Nodaway County including desks, slateboards, piano, flag, books, and other accessories. hours (subject to change) : Museum hours are 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., Tuesday through Saturday, or by appointment. Regular tours are available when museum is open. Special tours are by appointment only.
