National Frontier Trails CenterIndependence, MO, 64050 816-325-7575 URL : http://www.frontiertrailscenter.com overview : The National Frontier Trails Center was built by the State of Missouri's Department of Natural Resources in 1990. The surviving portion of the Waggoner-Gates Mill building was incorporated into the design. The mill's laboratory was renovated as well, and serves as the national headquarters of the Oregon-California Trails Association. During the trails period, thousands of wagons rolled down the hill from the Courthouse Square and passed over the property now known as the National Frontier Trails Center. The large, free public spring offered emigrants a chance to water their livestock and wash with its fresh water. hours (subject to change) : Monday through Saturday 9:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. - Sunday 12:30 p.m. - 4:30 p.m. - Open daily except New Year's Day, Thanksgiving Day, & Christmas Day. topics : American history, western, heritage |
