overview : The Historical Society of Delaware, founded in 1864, is a private, non-profit, educational organization operated for the benefit of the public. Its mission is to provide and encourage a greater understanding and appreciation of history, particularly the history of the State of Delaware. The Society collects and preserves materials relating to the history of Delaware and Delawareans, interpreting that history through research, exhibitions, publications, and educational programs.

collections : It maintains a Research Library and the Delaware History Museum in Wilmington, as well as three historic sites: Old Town Hall, Willingtown Square and the Read House and Gardens.
