It was moved the very same year to the present day location along the Brazos River. Fort Belknap was one of the largest posts in North Texas prior to the Civil War, it protected early settlers, travelers, and was a stop on the famous Butterfield Overland Mail Route. It was abandoned in 1867 collections : there are 6 original buildings, and 1 replica still standing.
