overview : Contains exhibits on the Rio Grande Valley's prehistory and history. Murals on display in the visitor center were some of those removed from a kiva at the site, and are among the finest examples of mural art in North America dating from pre-European contact. The kiva the murals were recovered from has been rebuilt and is open to the public with reproductions of the original murals adorning its walls. - In 1540 the Pueblo people on the Rio Grande witnessed a remarkable event: Francisco Vasquez de Coronado with 300 armored soldiers, 800 Indian allies from New Spain, and a traveling pantry of pigs, chickens, and cattle entered their valley.
