overview : Between Denver and Limon off I-70, this is the site of the historic “'Joining of the Rails'. On August15, 1870, the joining of the rails at Comanche (Strasburg) completed the first permanent, continuous, uninterrupted chain of railroads across the United States from a Pacific to an Atlantic port. The May 10, 1869, Promontory, Utah, joining of the rails was not continuous, as there was not a bridge on the Missouri River and the rails were not extended from Sacramento to San Francisco, California at that time.
