overview : Twenty-three display gardens and three native habitat areas on 385 acres on a series of lakes and waterways makes the Garden a spectacular place to visit. Gardens include the newly opened Gardens of the Great Basin, Japanese Garden, Enabling Garden, Rose Garden, English Walled and more. Authentic Midwestern prairies and native woods offer peaceful retreats. Indoors you'll find tropical, temperate and desert greenhouses, as well as an art gallery. Visit often to enjoy unique festivals and exhibits.
collections : At the heart of every museum are its collections. Living plants are the Chicago Botanic Gardens primary collection, its foundation and reason for existence. Successful plant collections like the Gardens, possessing breadth, depth and museum-quality documentation, offer opportunities for scientific research and education for the public and professionals. The Gardens 1.9 million plants representing 8,819 taxa also form a beautiful environment. They are displayed in landscape settings across 385 acres. One-third of the site is horticultural displays while another third is native habitats and the remaining third is lakes and facilities.
