overview : The Chariton County Historical Society was founded in 1956. The museum first opened in 1966 in the former Lincoln School in Salisbury. In the 1970's, the Society purchased and renovated the Fellows Hatchery and the collection of artifacts was moved to the present location at 115 E. 2nd Street. - We have recently built an addition that now houses a replica of early 1900's mainstreet, complete with general store, blacksmith shop, printing shop, barber shop and bank.
