overview : William Blount built Blount Mansion in 1792 to serve as his home and the Capitol of the Southwest Territory. William Blount was a signer of the US Constitution, and President Washington appointed him to be Governor of the Southwest Territory. He guided Tennessee to become the sixteenth state on June 1, 1796.
