overview : The mission of the Birmingham Zoo is to instill in its visitors and other interested parties an appreciation of wildlife that will promote the conservation of natural resources. - The Birmingham Zoo has joined with the American Zoological Association and Zoos around the world in maintaining Species Survival Programs (SSP's ). An SSP is a cooperative breeding and conservation program.

hours (subject to change) : Regular Zoo Hours: 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. - Extended Summer Hours From Memorial Day to Labor Day - Tuesdays, Fridays, Saturdays until 7:00 p.m. - Open daily, Monday through Sunday - Except Thanksgiving and Christmas)
