overview : The Chatham Historical Society was organized in 1923. Three years later, The Society acquired the Atwood House - an 18th century Cape located at 347 Stage Harbor Road. Today the museum consists of the Atwood House, furnished throughout in period American antiques, plus seven galleries and two separate buildings-the Stallknecht Mural Barn and the Nickerson Camp.
collections : The collection of the Chatham Historical Society includes approximately 3000 objects (paintings, decorative arts, maritime artifacts, etc.)-mainly American-made and mostly Chatham related. In addition, our archives contains about 2500 photographs, 800 to 1000 books, and several thousands documents relating to the history of Chatham.
