overview : Founded in 1971, Alton Museum of History & Art is dedicated to preserving and showing the history within a 35 mile radius of Alton. We are a Non-Profit organization that is privately funded and do not receive any money from city or state taxes.

collections : We have information and exhibits on Robert Wadlow, the world's tallest man. Elijah Lovejoy, the Underground Railroad, Civil War, the Piasa Bird, and our Transportation Room are a few other examples of our museum.

hours (subject to change) : Monday - Friday 10 am - 4 pm Saturday and Sunday 1 pm - 4 pm
