overview : The Algonac/Clay Township Historical Society began, in 1991, as a volunteer effort and continues to be a volunteer organization today. Its membership is made up of former Historical and Boating groups plus other citizens interested in the area. It is a non-profit organization dedicated to preserving the history of the area.
collections : Gar Wood and Chris Craft boat companies were started here. Gar Wood set the speed record in the North Channel of the St Clair River here. We are known as the "Hospitality Port" for the Tall Ships on their visits to the Great Lakes.
