overview : Called "the best of its kind in the world," by The New York Times, the Adirondack Museum at Blue Mountain Lake overlooks the lake of the same name. - Six million acres of Adirondack Park surround this place and form the basis of the museum’s exhibits and programs telling the stories of how people have lived, worked, played and traveled in the Adirondack region since the early 1800s .. Twenty buildings on 32 acres of grounds and gardens, house exhibits on logging, boats and boating, mining, outdoor recreation, transportation, rustic furniture…, and on-going programs and special events offer a variety of interesting activities for the whole family.

collections : Is it carriages or canoes that you find interesting? Women's history or woodsmen's lore? Adirondack photography or public policy? Baskets or boilers, blizzards or blowdowns, beanpots or butter churns? Whatever your interest, the Adirondack Museum makes its collections available for research and study. Through appointment with the Curatorial Department or Museum Library, access to thousands of objects, photographs, documents, and pieces of artwork is available.
