overview : The purpose of the museum is to educate the public in the cultural, economic, political, and social history of Polk County and Central Florida, from the earliest times to the present, in the context of the state and the nation. To accomplish this purpose, the mission of the museum is to collect, preserve, research, interpret, and exhibit the material record of human culture and to promote and encourage the knowledge and appreciation of Polk County's rich and diverse history.

collections : The scope of the museum collection includes the artifacts of Polk County and Central Florida history and culture from pre-contact to the present. Objects acquired by the museum represent material culture in Polk County and Central Florida. The collection includes documentation of individuals and cultural groups as well as objects that illustrate events and the history of the arts and crafts in Polk County and Central Florida. The museum is the repository of the 116th Field Artillery Unit's collection. The 116th is Polk County's National Guard unit. Exhibition of this collection will be part of the "Military History of Polk County" exhibit to be located on the second floor.

hours (subject to change) : Tuesday - Friday, 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Saturday, 9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. Closed Sunday, Monday, and Holidays
