overview : County wide historical society with local chapters covering Beaverton and Gladwin. Volunteer staff maintains a historical village and a museum is located in the former Gladwin Station. The museum is open regular hours from Memorial Day to Labor Day and other times by appointment. School classes are encouraged to make an appointment for private programs sponsored by the volunteers of the Gladwin County Historical Society. Gladwin County will celebrate its First Settler Sesquicentennial in 2011, and plans are underway to produce two new histories of Gladwin County: 1. Gladwin County Hall of Fame - containing biographies, family histories and profiles of the heros of Gladwin County (men and women who offered or gave their lives in the service of freedom, democracy, law and order, public safety or public service.) 2. A History of the Settlement and Development of Gladwin County - general histories of the places, events, institutions, industries and milestones in Gladwin County's 150 years of history.
