It has inspired and delighted visitors for over 120 years. The gallery has recently undergone a major 4.3 million refurbishment programme. The Walker has one of the most outstanding and varied art collections in the UK. Its main areas of interest include: Italian and Netherlandish paintings from 1350 - 1550 European art from 1550 - 1900 including works by Rembrandt, Poussin and Degas, exceptional 18th and 19th British art, including Stubbs, Gainsborough, a major collection of Victorian painting and many excellent Pre-Raphaelite works, a wide collection of prints, drawings and watercolours, 20th century works by artists such as Lucien Freud, Henry Moore, David Hockney and Gilbert and George one of the most important sculpture collections outside London. hours (subject to change) : 10am - 5pm, Monday to Saturday, 12pm - 5pm, Sunday topics : european, art |
