Clearfield gets its name from the first English explorers to arrive by canoe on the West Branch of the Susquehanna River who marveled at its geography: a clear field in a valley between the mountains where the bison graze as far as you can see. - Most of the county's appeal is the great outdoors: fishing, canoeing, hunting, hiking, camping, mountain biking and other outdoor activities abound throughout the county.
