South Windsor Historical SocietySouth Windsor, CT, 06074 URL : http://southwindsorhistory.home.att.net overview : The purpose of the South Windsor Historical Society is to seek, acquire, maintain, research and display objects pertaining to local history such as, but not limited to, artifacts, relics, books, manuscripts, oral histories, and genealogical data in order to preseve thses for future generations and also utilize these for educational purposes; to provide information when possible for the preservation and marking of historic sites and buildings; to acquire by gift, purchase, or otherwise, feal and personal property; to use and/or manage such property in any legal manner as the Society deems appropriate; to provide educational programs of general historical interest for the public; to carry on all activities appropriate for a historical society. The South Windsor Historical Society is a 501(c)(3) tax exempt organization. collections : A typical one-room schoolhouse of 19th century New England, restored and expanded as a museum of local history, with a focus on schools. Vintage texts, papers, photos, desks, and other artifcacts hours (subject to change) : The first Sunday of each month (except Dec., Jan., Feb., March, 1 to 4 p.m. topics : local, history, wapping, east, windsor, hill, pleasant, valley, general, 19th, century, 20th, American, agriculture, local history |
