overview : Built in 1893, and used as a school until 1961, this 4-story historic sandstone building now houses a collection unparalleled for its diversity. Twenty-five exhibit areas showcase pioneer life in the Hot Springs/Fall River County area of South Dakota. We have a wheelchair available ,an elevator to all floors, and nice restrooms. An outside play area complete with an old-fashioned merry-go-round and picnic tables further enhances the visit. Situated high on a hill in the center of Hot Springs, this is the place to start your visit to the area.

collections : We have an original bust carved by Gutzon Borglum,;"The Temptation," an orginal statue by Victor Sauer, and many other orignals by local artists. The Flat World Map by Orlando Ferguson; spinning wheels, hands-on stereoviewers, telephone switchboards, a Boy Scout display-new in 2007, information and a research room on the Angostura Irrigation Project, and the history of the Miss South Dakota Pageant which has been staged in Hot Springs since 1947. Come and see our two-headed calf, an early office setup of both a dentist and a doctor, and a pioneer-era school room.
