Tonganoxie Historical Society 201 W. Washington St. Tonganoxie, KS, 66086 913-845-2477 URL : http://www.tongie.org/HistSocietyl.htm overview : The Tonganoxie Community Historical Museum consists of 6.3 acres with a barn and milk house. This property was part of the the Fairchild-Knox Dairy started in 1884 by Frank Fairchild and his wife, Mattie, The milk house has been completely renovated and houses the new museum which opened in 2003. The museum contains a brief history of Chief Tonganoxie and other area Indian tribes. Early settlers and businesses, including the Fairchild-Knox Dairy, are also represented. The museum houses period artifacts representing local culture of the past. The Honey Valley one room school house is fully restored. The Honey Valley school district was organized in 1869. The original school house burned down in 1915 and a new building was constructed in 1916. The Reno Methodist Church was burned in 1918 and restored that same year. hours (subject to change) : Wednesdays from 9:00am to noon, and on Sunday, 1:00pm to 4:00pm topics : historical societies |
