Located in the downtown arts and theater district of Jackson, MS, the IMMC is the United State's first and only museum of Islamic history and culture. The museum space houses an exhibit on the development of Islamic Moorish Spain, a gift shop, and a bookstore. The museum plans to launch the Legacy of Timbuktu: Wonders of the Written Word exhibit in Spring 2006. The
exhibits at the IMMC are designed to expand the public's understanding of Islamic history and civilization and the significant influences of Muslims on modern medicine, art, literature, jurisprudence, philosophy, and more. Through research and the collection, preservation, exhibition, and interpretation of objects that promote the understanding of Muslim culture, the Museum strives to facilitate
multicultural and interfaith tolerance, reducing religious and racial bigotry and advancing religious and civic dialogue.
